Dr. Toni S. Stevens, Ph.D., is a Senior Lecturer in the Literature, Media, and Writing department at Spelman College. She specializes in African American literature, Africana women’s writing, and composition and rhetoric. Dr. Stevens is a recent Ph.D. graduate of Clark Atlanta University. Her dissertation, titled “Dancing with the Trees: An Africana Ecowomanist Reading of Africana Women's Literature,” explores how Africana women writers engage themes of nature, liberation, and spiritual well-being through an Africana Ecowomanist lens. Dr. Stevens' teaching and research examine the intersections of race, gender, environment, and storytelling traditions. She employs student-centered pedagogies that integrate digital humanities, cultural analysis, and critical theory to support student engagement and scholarly exploration. Dr. Stevens enjoys traveling abroad, exploring new foods and wines, and cheering on her son at his baseball games.
